Manga Monday | Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
Hey Ya'll! It's been a while since I've made a manga post. I guess I just got busy, but I have been reading lots of great manga! One of those manga happens to be Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! by Yuu Toyota. Yes, I know. The title is long and a little strange, but trust me it's a good read if you're into the seinen/boys love genre. I forgot how I found this manga to be honest, but somehow I stumbled upon it and all it's different mediums. Let's get into it.
About the Mangaka
Toyota Yuu is a manga creator with numerous series spanning many different genres, from shojo to slice-of-life with her most known creation being Cherry Magic!. The story she originally came up with was about a wizard who had a one-sided crush on someone else, but it turned into something way beyond that. Just like other Mangaka, there isn't much on Yuu, but I did find a great little interview on her on the Otaku USA Magazine.
About Cherry Magic!
Adachi, a thirty-year-old virgin, discovers he has the magical power to read the minds of people he touches. Unfortunately, the ability just makes him miserable since he doesn’t know how to use it well! And to make matters worse, when he accidentally reads the mind of his very competent, handsome colleague, Adachi discovers the guy has a raging crush on none other than Adachi himself! Things are about to get VERY awkward!
My Thoughts
Cherry Magic! is a fun, slice-of-life, boys' love manga that will have you laughing and swooning at for our main characters and their mutual love for one another. It's a manga that you can easily ease yourself into when you're looking for something more down-to-earth (even though the power thing is a little out there) and easy to follow manga.
Even though there seems to have been a good stopping point for the manga, I love that our Mangaka has kept on with expanding the Cherry Magic world. We get to see how our characters would react in various situational settings and we get to learn what happens to more of our side characters, such as Minato and Tsuge. We also get to see what happens when the very power that got our characters together is gone. Even though the second half of this story differs from the beginning, it is no less entertaining and fun to read.
If you fall in love with the manga, you can watch the Japanese live-action drama, the Thai live-action drama, and the anime adaptation. I have watch the Japanese live-action and the anime adaption, both stuck to the plot, but differed a bit from the original context. However, they both get to the same conclusion at the end. I haven't watched the Thai drama, but I have heard some great things about it and will more than likely give it a chance in the near future.
Overall, Cherry Magic! is a great manga if you're looking for something not super action-packed, a little bit corny, but a whole ton of cute. After you read it, there's tons of other mediums to indulge yourself in, so that is always nice as well.
Well readers, until next time, Happy Reading!
