When Leah Miller's entire Amish family was murdered ten years ago, the person believed responsible took his own life. Since then, Leah left the Amish and joined the police force. Now, after another Amish woman is found murdered with the same MO, it becomes clear that the wrong man may have been blamed for her family's deaths.

As Leah and the new police chief, Dalton Cooper, work long hours struggling to fit the pieces together in order to catch the killer, they can't help but grow closer. When secrets from both of their pasts begin to surface, an unexpected connection between them is revealed. But this is only the beginning. Could it be that the former police chief framed an innocent man to keep the biggest secret of all buried? And what will it mean for Leah--and Dalton--when the full truth comes to light?

USA Today bestselling author Mary Alford keeps you guessing as two determined souls plumb the dark depths of the past in order to forge a brighter future--together.

"Mary Alford proves she's a master storyteller with Among the Innocent. Expect an adrenaline rush on every page." -- Debby Giusti, author of Smugglers in Amish Country

I have read many crime/mystery books throughout my twenty-seven years of life (hence my Janet Evanovich obsession). However, I've never read an Amish crime thriller. I enjoyed how different this book was and it felt like I was reading something truly original. The Amish aspect alone gives this book a unique twist, one that helps the reader understand Amish a little more and gives us a different perspective on crime novels.

Speaking of perspective, another aspect of this book that I, and I'm sure many people who read mystery books, enjoyed getting the perspective from the killer. We don't normally hear from the murderer unless our main character finds them, then we get a reveal of what they were thinking, how they committed their crimes, etc. But not in this story. Our author does a great job of letting us have insight into what the killer is thinking, how he thinks, and where he is thinking of his next act. This just gives the story a whole other perspective and another reason to keep on reading.

Last, our author does a tremendous job on keeping us on our toes. There's quite a few secrets our characters are keeping and when one slips out, another one seems to be on it's way. Again, this keeps our readers engaged and wanting to learn more about our characters and how it all ties into the main plot.

I don't have anything horrible to say about this book. I did feel like some of dialogue was a little corny from time to time when it came to our main characters, but it was profound enough to make me put this back on my shelf.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Among The Innocent. It's a genuinely, unique read with plenty of twists and turns, and so much character development. I'm happy to have this one on my shelf, and I know you will too. Until next time, Happy Reading!
