Book Talk | Plum Spooky

I’m back with another Stephani Plum novel. If you’re new here, I’ve been a Janet Evanovich fan ever since she was, seemingly randomly, on my sophomore summer reading list and I picked up Visions of Sugar Plums at Half Price Bookstore. I’m 30 now and I still find enjoyment reading the whacky adventures of Stephanie Plum and Plum Spooky was no exception.

About the Author

Janet Evanovich began her career writing short contemporary romance novels under the pen name Steffie Hall, but gained fame authoring a series of contemporary mysteries featuring Stephani Plum, a former lingerie buyer from Trenton, New Jersey, who becomes a bounty to make ends meet after losing her job.

About the Book

Wulf Grimoire is an opportunist who can kill without remorse and disappear like smoke. He’s chosen Martin Munch, boy genius, as his new business partner, and he’s chosen the Barrens as his new playground.  Wulf  is looking for world domination. Martin Munch would be happy if he could just get a woman naked and tied to a tree. Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has Munch on her most-wanted list for failure to appear in court.  Usually she gets her man. This time she gets a monkey.  She also gets a big guy named Diesel.

Plum Spooky is book number 14.5 in the Stephanie Plum series. There are currently 31 books in this series so far.

My Thoughts

Plum Spooky is the last in-between-the-numbers books for the Stephanie Plum series (so far at least). I would have liked to see some more specials, but I can see why there hasn’t been one in a long time. The formula is a little different, as a get our in-between-the-numbers only character, Diesel, and a random animal thrown into the mix. It makes for a nice shake up that we don’t normally see in the normal timeline or events. Although, this one showed more of Morelli and Diesel, something we don’t normally see in these type of books.

My only complaint is that I was expecting the book to be a bit more spooky and Halloween themed. Instead, it felt more like a sci-fi special, with the rockets and the monkey's with hats. Sure, there were spooky woods, but the specials usually teeter around a holiday and I don't believe Halloween was even mentioned. For being the spooky episode, it just didn't feel that way for me.

Overall, this was a classic Stephanie Plum story that I enjoyed reading. The relationship between Stephanie and Diesel is always fun to witness and the villains were very classic villain this time around. It’s a good read for the Stephanie Plum lovers, but maybe start with a different book form the series if you are not. And maybe don't save this for your end of September/October read.

Until next time, Happy Reading!
